However, taking cognizance of the situation, the police in Shillong have launched a week-long operation to crack down on such reckless drivers/riders.

East Khasi Hills SP has directed all police officials on traffic to conduct intensive checks across their jurisdiction.

This initiative follows a surge in traffic violations and dangerous riding behaviour by motorcyclists in the city.

The police have observed a growing trend of speeding, disregard for traffic rules, and overall reckless operation of two-wheelers, posing a significant threat to public safety.

A police source said that the primary focus would be on bikers with modified exhaust pipes that make the bikes loud and ones who perform “race stances” (reckless riding) on public roads.

Missing or unclear license plates will also be addressed during the drive.
