Shillong: The Meghalaya Police has announced a Rs 1 lakh reward for anyone providing credible information that leads to the arrest of those involved in the Them Mator IED blast.

It may be mentioned that on Saturday evening, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast occurred at the Syndicate Bus Station near Them Mator (Harijan Colony) in Shillong.

According to a statement released by Rituraj Ravi, Superintendent of Police (SP) for the East Khasi Hills District, the way the bomb was detonated is similar to past attacks claimed by the banned militant group Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for this latest blast.

The SP informed that the crude IED believed to contain gelatin sticks, exploded at around 10:30 PM on Saturday inside an abandoned metal structure at the Syndicate Bus Stand.

The blast caused damage to the structure and shattered windows of nearby buildings, but fortunately, it was contained.

One passerby, Lakhan Singh, reportedly suffered a leg injury and was taken to Woodland Hospital for treatment.

The East Khasi Hills Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act and are committed to thoroughly investigating the incident to apprehend the perpetrators.

The SP urged anyone with information about the blast to come forward. He assured that the identities of informants will be kept confidential.
