In order to contain the spread of coronavirus, the district magistrate of East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya has imposed ‘night curfew’ in the district with effect from Sunday.
The night curfew across the East Jaintia Hills district will remain effective from 7 pm to 7 am, said the order, issued by the district magistrate, F.M. Dopth, on Sunday.
“Whereas, in order to contain prevent and control the outbreak of Coronovirus (COVID-19) in East Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya and also keeping in view of the emerging scenario and safety of the general public and to avoid any outbreak of an epidemic,” the order said.
The order said, “in exercise of the powers” conferred upon the district magistrate, under section 144 CrPC, F.M. Dopth promulgated the night curfew with effect from March 22, 2020, from 7 pm to 7 am for the incoming vehicles from Assam en route to the district via Malidor area.
“In view of the urgency of the matter this order is being passed ex-parte and shall come into force with immediate effect and until further orders,” the district magistrate said in the order.
