Guwahati: The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Non-teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) in Meghalaya has announced an indefinite strike starting November 4, protesting the unprecedented delay in the recruitment process for posts advertised in November 2023.

Despite repeated communications to the Vice Chancellor, the process remains stalled, they claimed.

The recruitment was initially entrusted to the National Testing Agency (NTA), but it informed the university on July 16, 2024, that it was unable to conduct the recruitment.

Subsequently, the university floated an Expression of Interest, with a submission deadline of September 30, 2024.

However, even after a month, no agency has been allotted the responsibility to conduct the recruitment, the union said.

NEHUNSA gave the Vice Chancellor a deadline to publish the syllabus for the recruitment and the date of the written exam by October 31, 2024. However, the association has now decided to go on an all-out indefinite pen-down and tool-down strike from November 4 to pressure the authorities to fulfil their demands.

The association expressed concern that the university’s administration, currently run by a skeletal regular staff, will come to a standstill if the recruitment is not conducted promptly.
