A mob vandalized the police operations group centre (OGC) at Tapadarenchi in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills (NGH) on Sunday night.

The angry mob demanded that a man, who is an accused in an abduction case, be handed over to them so that instant justice can be meted out to him.

Police had to fire in the air to disperse the mob.

Police on Sunday arrested two persons for their alleged role in the attack on the police facility.

According to police, hundreds of villagers gathered at the OGC demanding that the accused be handed over to them.

When police paid no heed to their demand, the mob stormed the OGC and indulged in vandalism.

Immediately after the incident, additional forces were rushed to the spot, including SF-10 commandos.

The situation is currently under control.

North Garo Hills SP Abraham T Sangma visited the area this morning and took stock of the situation.

“Two cases have been registered. We have taken this destruction of government property seriously. Two persons have been arrested in this connection so far,” he said.
