The publisher and owner of the first Khasi daily Mawphor and English daily Highland Post, Reading Marwein has passed away.
Marwein breathed his last on Thursday. He was 72.
Marweiñ is survived by his wife and daughters.
He was born on May 22, 1949, at Mawlangwir in Mawkyrwat, the headquarters of South West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya.
Mawphor was established on July 1, 1989 as a four-page daily while the Highland Post, an English daily, was launched in 2013.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, power minister James, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla and many others have condoled Marweiñ’s demise.
“Saddened by the demise of Bah Reading Marwein, publisher & owner of Mawphor and Highland Post- Meghalaya’s reputed Khasi and English daily newspapers. He was a pioneer that shaped professional journalism in Khasi Hills. My condolences to his family, friends and dear ones,” chief minister Conrad Sangma tweeted.

In his condolence message, minister James Sangma tweeted: “My deepest condolences on the passing away of Bah Reading Marwein, owner & publisher of Mawphor & Highland Post.
“He was a humble entrepreneur who set up a venture that helped to shape Khasi journalism in the State. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.

Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla tweeted: “Saddened to learn the demise of the owner & publisher of Mawphor and Highland Post, Bah Reading Marweiñ.”
