Mahila Congress president Joplyn Scott Shylla said, “We will continue to protest till this Bill is withdrawn.”

The protest by the women wing of the opposition Congress in the state came a day before a delegation of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) led by the state Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma is scheduled to leave  for  New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh to apprise them of mass opposition to the Bill in the region including Meghalaya.

Several a political groups in Meghalaya including the Confederation of Hynniewtrep Social Organisation (CoHSO) have launched agitation against the Bill and vowed to intensify the same unless the Bill is scrapped by the Centre as it is detrimental to the interests of indigenous people in the region.
