Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Idashisha Nongrang has been appointed as the acting director general of police (DGP), Meghalaya. 

An official notification has been released stating that Nongrang will discharge duties of Meghalaya DGP, until a full-fledged DGP is appointed.

Idashisha Nongrang, a 1992 batch IPS officer, is currently serving as the special DG of Meghalaya police. 

“Pending appointment of a full pledged Director General of Police, Meghalaya… in the interest of public service, Smti Idashisha Nongrang, IPS (RR 1992), Special Director General of Police, Meghalaya, is temporarily allowed to look after the office of Director General of Police, Meghalaya,” the notification published by the orders of the Governor read.

Nongrang will take charge as acting DGP on December 31 following retirement of incumbent DGP R Chandranathan. 

Meanwhile, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma recently said that the process to select a new DGP has begun.
