SHILLONG: The traditional Iewduh market in Shillong โ€“ the capital of Northeast state of Meghalaya โ€“ is all set to receive a major facelift.

The North Eastern Council (NEC) has allocated Rs 11 crores for development and beautification of Iewduh market (Barabazar) in Shillong, Meghalaya.

NEC secretary K Moses Challai said, โ€œWe (NEC) are going to revamp our good, poor and old Barabazar. We are going to revamp the whole market.โ€

However, the sanctioned amount, which has been approved by the NEC, is yet to be released.

โ€œWe are studying the DPR, which is around Rs 10-11 cr,โ€ he added.

The facelift and beautification of the Iewduh market in Shillong city of Meghalaya will commence within 2-3 months.

Challai said that Iewduh market requires complete revamp, including the pipeline, footpaths and other essential facilities.
