Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy who visited West Khasi Hills district on Wednesday compared dunes in the district with those in Switzerland. He called for promoting and developing rural tourism.

The Governor said that the objective of the visit was to get acquainted with the rich cultural tradition of the state.

“The dune of West Khasi Hills are so beautiful and resemble the one in Switzerland” the Governor said.  He really fell in love with the beauty scenario and landscape of West Khasi Hills in particular and Meghalaya in general.

The Governor shared his feelings in a meeting with the district administration at the Conference Hall in DC office which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa.

The Governor narrated his close association with the state especially Shillong where he often visited during his childhood days.

Acknowledging the tourism potential of the district, the Governor stressed the need to promote and develop rural tourism which can create employment opportunities.
