Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy on Saturday called on social activist, Agnes Kharshiing and her aide, Amita Sangma in NEIGRIHMS who were brutally attacked by coal mafias in East Jaiñtia Hills district on November 8.

The Governor and the first lady of the state, Anuradha Roy, reached the intensive critical care unit of NEIGRIHMS at around 10 am and met Agnes and Amita.

The first lady shed tears when she saw Agnes and Amita in the hospital.  Amita also cried before the Governor and narrated to him about the incident.

Agnes who could not speak properly also shed tears and was heard saying the Governor and the first lady “thank you so much.”

NEIGRIHMS officials accompanied the Governor along with family members of Agnes and Amita.

Condemning the incident, the Governor termed the attack on the two women as dastardly and said that the two women were courageous.

He said that he would take up with Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad K Sangma and DGP and said that culprits who attacked the two women should be booked as per law.
