The National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government is contemplating to come up with a telecom policy to improve mobile network in the state of Meghalaya.

Interacting with media in Shillong on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We are keen to come up with a strong telecom policy during the ongoing session of the Assembly.”

The budget session, which had a 12-day recess, will resume on Thursday.

Stating that the goal is to ensure mobile connectivity in all parts of the State, he said, “A meeting will be convened with the telecom providers in the State next week to discuss on how we can take this forward.”

Moreover, the Chief Minister informed that his government is also keen in putting in place the much-awaited education policy.

“I have asked the department to give me a report and submit the draft and all consultative works in three months’ time,” he said.

Conrad said that the government is also likely to pass an official resolution to seek intervention of the Centre for lifting ban on coal mining in the state by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Meanwhile, he informed that the government may not be able to bring many bills in the ongoing budget session of the Assembly as a lot of homework is required to be done to ensure everything is in proper shape.
