SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has urged the central government to fence the India-Bangladesh international border in the state.
In fact, the Meghalaya government has written to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) urging immediate fencing of the India-Bangladesh border in the state.

This development was informed by Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong while speaking to the media in Shillong.
“The state government has written to the MHA urging completion of fencing of the India-Bangladesh border in whatever way possible,” said Meghalaya deputy CM Prestone Tynsong.

He added that the fencing should be close to the zero point between India and Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned here that the Northeast state of Meghalaya shares a 443-km-long international border with Bangladesh.
Notably, this demand of the Meghalaya government came at a time when the Centre has announced its decision to completely fence the India-Myanmar border in the region.
India shares a 1643-km-long international border with Myanmar that runs along the borders of four Northeast states.
