Guwahati: IPS officer Idashisha Nongrang has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Meghalaya.

She becomes the first woman to hold a position in any of the northeastern states’ police forces.

The appointment comes after a recommendation by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Currently serving as the Director General of Civil Defence and Home Guard in Meghalaya, Nongrang will take over from the retiring DGP LR Bishnoi.

It may be mentioned that she had earlier served as the acting DGP of Meghalaya.

While even this year it was earlier reported that she might be appointed as the acting DGP, she on Saturday was announced the DGP officially.

Her tenure as DGP will be for a fixed period of two years, starting on May 20, 2024, and ending on May 19, 2026.
