Guwahati: With just a day before the Gambegre By-polls in Meghalaya, an FIR was filed against Stevie Marak, NPP’s Boldamgre MDC, over allegations of him violating Election Commission norms.
The complainant, Jostview D Sangma, alleged that Marak was involved in physical assault, intimidation with a firearm and violation of Election Commission Rules.

The incident allegedly occurred at 1 AM on November 12, when Sangma, part of a neighbourhood watch group, was allegedly assaulted and threatened by Marak, along with locals from the area.
Sangma claims that Marak’s actions not only constitute assault but also breach Election Commission rules, which prohibit public meetings and door-to-door campaigning during the silent period.
Furthermore, Sangma pointed out that Marak, as a gun license holder, is required to deposit his arms at the nearest police station before elections to prevent misuse.

He claimed that by retaining and brandishing his firearm, Marak has defied Election Commission laws and breached Arms Act regulations.
Sangma further demanded that his complaint be registered, Marak’s arms license be revoked immediately and legal action be taken against him.
