The high level committee constituted by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to discuss on the vexed issue of finding a permanent solution to the long pending demand of relocating settlers residing at Them ïew Mawlong (Punjabi Lane), is meeting again on Friday evening.

The meeting will be held in the main Secretariat tentatively at 4 pm after the state Cabinet meeting, scheduled at 3 pm.
This is the second meeting of the high level committee in five days.
The committee was constituted on June 4 with Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong as chairman and the first meeting was held on Wednesday.
The chairman has further included more members into the committee which include State Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh, HSPDP legislator, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar.
Officials from the Urban Affairs, Law Department, Shillong Municipal Board are also part of the committee.
Others members of the HLC include, Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling, Health Minister A L Hek, Home Minister James K Sangma, Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, P N Syiem, besides Commissioner and Secretary D P Wahlang as member secretary of the committee.
Earlier, the committee has asked the departments to share details including court cases in connection with the issue as soon as possible.
Departments that involved in the exercise include Urban Affairs, Shillong Municipal Board, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and other agencies.
The terms of reference of the high-level committee is to examine all relevant records and documents and recommend feasible solution on the issue.
The committee shall submit its recommendations to the government at the earliest.
The issue has been pending for many years with governments in the past having failed to resolve it.
