Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday paid his last respect to Fr Thomas Thekkekandom, former principal of several prominent Don Bosco Schools across Assam.
Notably, Fr Thekkekandom was principal of Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh where Conrad’s late father and former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma studied.
In a tweet on his official Tweeter handle, Conrad wrote:
“Paid my last respect to Fr. Thomas Thekkekandom. May his soul rest in peace. Fr. Thekkekandom was principal of Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh where my late father studied.”
Conrad also shared a couple of emotional photographs of his paying his last respect to the educationist who had an influence on his late father, the founder of National People’s Party (NPP), the political party which he is spearheading with elan.
Sangma also spent five youthful years as teacher, librarian and as the master in charge of the boarders in Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh.
Fr Thekkekandom Thomas passed away in Agartala on Tuesday at the age of 82 years.
Fr Thomas was also the principal of the Don Bosco School, Panbazaar in Guwahati from 1973 to 1979.
A keen sports lover, Fr Thomas was instrumental in producing international paddlers of the Assam like Arunjyoti Baruah, Carfew Roy, Tridib Duvarah, Gautam Hazarika among others.
