Meghalaya state Congress unit on Tuesday came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of resolving the ban on coal mining in the State.
Interacting with media in Shillong on Tuesday, Congress leader, P T Sawkmie said that the central leaders from BJP who came to Meghalaya during elections had claimed that they would resolve the issue of ban on coal mining within a month’s time.

Sawkmie said that even though six months have passed since the new government came to power with the help from the BJP, no exercise has been done to resolve the issue.
Terming the state cabinet ministers as ‘opportunists’, he said that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma soon after taking charge claimed that he would usher in myriad of benefits to the people of the State but till now, many teachers in the State are still fighting for their legitimate salaries.
He also said that no big project had been sanctioned for the State in the recent past whereas contractors in the State were waiting for clearance of their bills.

He also said that most of the leaders in the ruling coalition are maintaining a convenient silence over the increasing price rise of essential commodities, especially sky rocketing price of petrol and diesel and LPG.
