Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday visited the cemetery of his father and former Lok Sabha Speaker, late PA Sangma, on the occasion of the latter’s 72nd birthday.

PA Sangma, who also served as a union minister and Chief Minister of Meghalaya, was laid to rest at his hometown in Tura on March 7, 2016.

Born on September 1, 1947, PA Sangma died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi on March 4, 2016.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma offered his prayers at the cemetery where his father was laid to rest and sought his blessings.

Informing about his visit to the cemetery, Conrad Sangma on his Twitter handle said on Sunday, “Visited the cemetery where my father Late P. A Sangma was laid to rest and I offered my prayers for his blessings.”

“I am grateful to be raised by such a humble and kind man & I am thankful to him for every lesson he ever taught us. We miss you dearly Baba,” the Meghalaya CM further tweeted.

Messages of paying tributes to the former Lok Sabha Speaker continue to pour in from leaders across the country.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Prakash Birla paying homage to late PA Sangma on his official Twitter handle said, “Today is the birth anniversary of Shri P A Sangma, former Speaker, Lok Sabha and CM, Meghalaya. Sangmaji, with profound understanding of rules, political acumen and humour, was known for ensuring cooperation of everybody in the House. My heartfelt homage to Sangmaji.”

Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton on his Twitter handle said, “On the birth anniversary of former LS Speaker and recipient of Padma Vibhushan 2017 PA Sangma I thank him for his service for Northeast and our country. His leadership has meant so much for NE.”

“Thank You for having such a positive impact on Conrad Sangma,” he added.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju also recalled PA Sangma and paid his homage terming him as the “great visionary leader” from the Northeast.
