Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to discuss the stateโs development plans and seek continued support from the central government, focusing on long-term economic growth and infrastructure expansion.
Sangma expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his Statehood Day greetings and for recognising Meghalayaโs โdistinct living heritage,โ including backing the national nomination of the Living Root Bridge Cultural Landscape for UNESCO consideration.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted progress in key areas such as economic growth, maternal health, human development, and initiatives to strengthen processing units and market networks aimed at doubling farmersโ income.
He updated the Prime Minister on progress in the New Shillong city project, efforts to boost tourism with private and community involvement, preparations for the 39th National Games in 2027, and initiatives to preserve the stateโs indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage.
The talks also focused on Meghalayaโs long-term growth, noting the need for continued central funding, improved infrastructure, stronger fiscal measures, and support for smaller Northeastern states.
Sangma submitted documents detailing the stateโs achievements and future plans, including a development performance report, Vision 2032 for long-term growth, and proposals aligned with the national Viksit Bharat initiative.
Sharing the update on social media, Sangma said the talks focused on future growth, infrastructure, and financial support, while also thanking the Prime Minister for his greetings to the people of Meghalaya.
