Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Main Primary Health Centre (PHC) and its supporting infrastructure at Mangsang in East Garo Hills district.
The redevelopment plan includes refurbishing the PHC building, upgrading staff housing, adding new quarters for General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) staff, and constructing a hall that can be used for yoga sessions and meetings.
Serving the local community for over 30 years, the health centre is set to receive these upgrades to better address the growing medical needs of residents in the area.
Enhanced accommodation for doctors and nurses is expected to encourage them to stay longer in the region, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services for nearby villages.
Sangma noted that strengthening primary healthcare facilities would help ease the pressure on larger hospitals and make quality, affordable medical care more accessible to rural populations.
At the same event, the chief minister also initiated the construction of a mini stadium in Mangsang, with an estimated investment of Rs 4.73 crore.
The current ground has long been a gathering place for football players, sports fans, and local residents. The project will replace the old, worn-out gallery with modern sports infrastructure.
Upon completion, the mini stadium is expected to offer improved facilities for sports events, local competitions, and community activities in the district.
