The award ceremony was organised to mark the 185th death anniversary U Tirot Sing Syiem- one of the most revered freedom fighters of Meghalaya.

In a tweet, CM Sangm said, โ€œBetter die an independent king than reign as the vassal. On his 185th Death Anniversary, we pay homage to U Tirot Sing Syiem, the great #freedom fighter of #Meghalaya who fought till his last breath to prevent #KhasiHills from falling into the hands of the British colonizers.โ€

Appreciating the efforts of the organisers, he further said, โ€ Appreciate the initiative of the National Peopleโ€™s Youth Front (NPYF) and their recommendation for the Draft Youth Policy.โ€
