Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday presented the U Tirot Sing Syiem Youth Achievement Award to Kitboklang Nogphlang, Scarlett Lawriniang, Pranab Pariat, Empower Warbah and Andreas H. Marwein.

The programme was organised by the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF).

The award ceremony was organised to mark the 185th death anniversary U Tirot Sing Syiem- one of the most revered freedom fighters of Meghalaya.

In a tweet, CM Sangm said, “Better die an independent king than reign as the vassal. On his 185th Death Anniversary, we pay homage to U Tirot Sing Syiem, the great #freedom fighter of #Meghalaya who fought till his last breath to prevent #KhasiHills from falling into the hands of the British colonizers.”

Appreciating the efforts of the organisers, he further said, ” Appreciate the initiative of the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) and their recommendation for the Draft Youth Policy.”
