Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended Kut, the traditional post harvest festival of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo communities in Manipur on Thursday.
Chief Minister Conrad led Meghalaya delegation arrived here on the invitation of the state youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip, to attend the post the harvest festival popularly known as Chavang Kut held with the theme “Nurturing the Legacy of our Forefather”at a small Sugnu village,65 km south of Imphal in chandel district.

The celebration at the Sugunu village was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar, arts and culture minister L Jayentakumar Singh and sports and water resources minister Letpao Haokip and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma suggested to the organizers to promote the kut festival as an international event by connecting it with the tourism in the coming years and inviting international delegates and ambassadors from Japan,Myanmar,Lao,Veitnam etc.
Drawing attention of the arts and culture minister Jayentakumar, Sangma said to start heritage villages of different tribes by documenting the tribes culture so that their identity does not get lost in this fast-moving and modern world.

Many cultural and music performances enthralled the gathering along with a beauty pageant Miss Kut Chandel 2018.
Earlier in the day, Chief Host of the Chandel District Kut Committee,Letpao Haokip presented the Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma with the traditional gong ‘Dak’ and a traditional instrument and showed him how to use the items.
