The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday conducted searches in two different cases related to the loss of government exchequer in the Northeast.
The CBI registered a case against a former associate professor and a former finance officer of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong.
The case was registered against the duo for allegedly submitting forged bills amounting to Rs 11, 60,066 under the Waste Management Project funded by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The accused during the period from August to October in 2018 had allegedly misappropriated the government funds in two projects under the Environmental Information System (ENVIS).
Searches were conducted in the office premises of ENVIS Resource Partner Centre, NEHU, Shillong.
The CBI team during the search seized some documents including a list of students under two courses (Waste Management and Environmental Laws), details of account opened in the name of ENVIS RP Centre, NEHU, Shillong & letters related to the release of funds, officials said.
The other case was registered based on a complaint filed by deputy CVO (traffic), Northern Railway against four officials under, a private company and other unknown public servants & persons.
The private company allegedly in connivance with said public servants & others entered into conspiracy during the period between 2012 & 2013 and lifted the scrap worth Rs 2.24 crore on the basis of money receipts issued by the accused public servants without actual realization of the said amount in railway account.
Searches were conducted at seven places which led to the recovery of various incriminating documents including property documents & bank account papers.
