Meghalaya BJP leader Ernest Mawrie speaking to reporters in Shillong on Tuesday.

The enrollment of new BJP members in Meghalaya has crossed one lakh so far.

Speaking to reporters at party office here on Tuesday evening, state convener for BJP’s enrolment drive, Ernest Mawrie said that the party has set a target to enroll two lakh members within August 12. The enrolment drive started on July 6.

Mawrie said that before the launch of the enrollment drive, the party has around 43,000 members.

“So far, we have 20,000 fresh members who have enrolled online. About one lakh application forms were printed for offline enrollment and distributed to all the mandals. Through offline, around 30,000 new members were enrolled in Garo Hills, 40,000 new members in East Khasi Hills district including Shillong city, and 4,000 members in Jaiñtia Hills,” the BJP leader said.

According to Mawrie, the enrolment procedure for primary members is by giving ‘missed call’ on toll-free number – 89 80 80 80 80 and by following instructions given in the message.

Interested persons can also become a member by opening the link http:://sadasyata-parv.narendramodi.in/ or through Narendra Modi app.

He informed that active membership drive would be initiated from August 12 onwards and it will continue till August 31.

“Any member who can enroll minimum 25 persons, is eligible to become an active member and eligible to be selected as state office-bearer in different capacity/responsibility within the party setup,” he said.

Asked about challenges faced by the BJP in convincing people to join the party, Mawriew said that people were already aware about the BJP and the ‘great leader’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The party receives good response from the people, and over one lakh members have been enrolled both offline and online,” Mawrie said.

When asked about the Missionary Cell formed by the BJP in Mizoram to increase its footprint in the state, Mawrie said that the party has not thought about this.

“We have not thought about the Mizoram model, but we convince people to join us and many are accepting our party and appreciated the programmes initiated by our Prime Minister,” he said.
