Meghalaya: BJP alleges corruption in MGNREGA scheme implementation in GH

Shillong: The Meghalaya BJP has accused political leaders and officials of engaging in corrupt practices related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme in the state.

Bernard N Marak, the State BJP vice president, claimed that suppliers and vendors involved with NREGA are allegedly deducting 50 per cent of the funds allocated for material supply for village projects.

Marak stated that this malpractice is widespread across many Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Blocks in the Garo Hills.

According to him, some suppliers claim that they have to make these deductions to pay political leaders and certain officials from the sanctioned funds.

He pointed out that this corruption is causing delays in project completion in many villages.

Marak further urged villagers experiencing these deductions of 50 to 60 per cent to report immediately to his office, promising to file FIRs against those responsible for depriving the villagers.

He also assured that the Chief Minister’s office and Deputy Commissioners would be informed about these corrupt activities.
