Meghalaya agriculture minister Banteidor Lyngdoh was on Monday elected as acting president of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF).
PDF president Ivanlumlang Marbañiang quit from the post on Monday.

Lyngdoh, who was the PDF working president, was chosen by members of the central executive committee following the sudden decision of Marbañiang not to hold the post anymore.
The term of the PDF president is three years, but Marbañiang vacated the post one year before the expiry of the term.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday evening, Marbañiang said he did not have reasons or differences in the party, but it was his feeling that he should hand over the responsibility to other leaders of the party to further strengthen the party.

However, the leaders which include urban affairs minister, Hamletson Dohling and Lyngdoh, the acting president, said that Marbañiang decided to vacate the president’s post as he was overburden with other responsibilities, which they did not reveal.

Marbañiang said that he would take over as chairman of the PDF.
“I will be the chairman and we will work as a team and work together for the growth of the party,” Marbañiang said.
Lyngdoh said that he was ready to take over as acting president and shoulder the responsibility by working together with all party leaders and members.
“It is my duty to shoulder the responsibility and we will continue to work together especially in strengthening the party as we go the Assembly polls in 2023,” he said.
Lyngdoh said he will continue as acting president till next year when the general council of the PDF would meet to elect the full-fledged president and other office bearers of the Central executive committee.
