A total of 53 trainees who had undergone training at the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) participated in the passing out parade of the basic course on Friday here.
The passing out parade was reviewed by former IPS officer, Aftab Ahmad Ali, the first Director of the Academy. A total of 53 trainees from two batches took the oath which was administered by NEPA Director, Kala Ramachandran.

The 44th Basic Course comprised of 19 trainees (15 DySPs from Manipur, 1 Dy SP from Nagaland and 3 Sub-Inspectors from Arunachal Pradesh) who passed out after having completed 49 weeks of intensive training.
The 45th Basic Course comprised 34 Armed Branch Sub-Inspectors from Meghalaya had commenced the training only in September, and will continue to train at NEPA for a few more months.
The trainees have been imparted with skills, knowledge and required attitude to deliver their best. Apart from the regular indoor training comprising Police Science, Legal Studies, and Social Science & outdoor training comprising Drill, Weapons Training, Physical Efficiency, Field Craft, Tactics, Horse Riding, and Swimming, the trainees were provided with specialized inputs on Cyber-Crime, Disaster Management, Gender Sensitization, Riot Drill, and practical training on bandobust.

The 44th Basic Course trainees went for Bharat Darshan cum Study Tour to Bengaluru & Mysuru and then underwent training in anti-insurgency tactics and operations at the Regional Greyhounds Academy in Vishakhapatnam.
The DySP trainees went for a week-long training in Police Leadership & Strategic Management Foreign Attachment with SPCS Consultancy Pvt.Ltd., Singapore. The cadet Sub Inspectors were attached with the CRPF and BSF for familiarisation with Border Policing. The trainees were sent for field trips to Umroi Airport, Guwahati Prison, and Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory, Guwahati. They visited Sadar Police Station to familiarise themselves with management of large scale law and order problem and were also attached with Jowai district Police to gain first-hand experience in bandobast duties during the NH7 Weekender.
17 trainees also successfully obtained Post Graduate Diploma in “Police Administration and Investigation” from the Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur.
With this Passing out Parade, a total of 3557 Basic Course trainees have passed out of NEPA during the past 40 years of existence. The first batch of 7 DySP and 14 Sub Inspectors passed out in 1982, under the tutelage of the first Director of NEPA.
In his address, Ali appreciated the advances made by NEPA in the past 40 years, and congratulated the young officers. He distributed the Trophies & Medals awarded to the trainees for their individual performance during the training period.
