On Thursday, Passah was produced in a lower court here and remanded to seven days in police custody.

Passah, who is still facing suspension from service since 2015, was the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Jirang Community and Rural Development Block in Ri-Bhoi district.

A case of arson was registered at Sadar Police Station after an FIR filed by the MPSC secretary, WAB Booth after petrol bomb was lobbed by miscreants inside her chamber at the MPSC building, Lower Lachumier here on July 10. Some important documents, computers and others materials were damaged.

Earlier, four persons including two persons who were paid for carrying out the petrol bomb attack were arrested.

East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police Davis N R Marak said that preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested officer was involved in paying money for the petrol bomb attack.

Police revealed that one of the four arrested persons had even warned the other accused persons that they may face dire consequences if they reveal anything.

One of the arrested accused was paid Rs 50,000 but he paid Rs 18,000 each to two other persons to carry out the arson.

“The person who warned the other accused persons not to reveal anything is the driver of a vehicle which belonged to the sister of the accused MCS officer. We also found that another arrested person who had paid money to the other two people to carry out the petrol bomb attack was working in the house of the MCS officer. This accused has also confessed that the attack was carried out based on the order given by the MCS officer,” Marak said.

Marak said the motive behind the petrol bomb attack at the MPSC secretary’s room will be known only after interrogating the MCS officer.
