Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju on Sunday remembered late PA Sangma on his 72nd birth anniversary.
“Former Lok Sabha Speaker late PA Sangma congratulated me on my first day in Parliament,” Rijiju tweeted.

Reacting to the tweet, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted, “Thank you Hon’ble Minister @KirenRijiju for remembering my late father on his birth anniversary.”

Purno Agitok Sangma was born on September 1, 1947, and served as the Meghalaya Chief Minister from 1988 to 1990.
He also served as the Lok Sabha Speaker from 1996 to 1998.
He along with Sharad Pawar and Tariq Anwar founded the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in 1999 after the trio’s expulsion from the Congress.
On March 4, 2016, Sangma died from cardiac arrest in New Delhi.
