This is the 12th edition of Indo-Thailand joint exercise – MAITREE-2019 being held as per the United Nations mandate.

A joint military exercise between the Indian Army and Royal Thailand Army commenced at the Joint Training Node, Umroi military station in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district on Monday.

This is the 12th edition of Indo-Thailand joint exercise – MAITREE-2019 being held as per the United Nations mandate, 2006 from September 16 to 29.

This Exercise MAITREE is an annual bilateral joint exercise between the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army with an aim to provide joint training to the troops in counter terrorism operations in both jungle terrain and urban scenario.

The 45-member Thai troop was led by Colonel Thiradej Limkunagul, from the 111 Regiment of the Royal Thailand Army, while Colonel Manish Joshi of the Indian Army led the troop to the bilateral joint exercise.

Exercise MAITREE- 2019 has been the face of long standing bilateral ties between India and Thailand since 2006.

The 14-day exercise will be conducted under the overarching framework of United Nations Mandate 2006.

Display of weapons was also organised during the opening ceremony of the joint exercise.

Both contingents will share their valuable experiences in the conduct of counter terrorism operations in the form of lectures, drills, demonstrations and skill-at-arms with an aim to refine tactics, techniques and procedures.

The exercise will culminate with a 48 hours joint exercise which will showcase the planning and execution of joint skills of soldiers while conducting any Counter Terrorism Operation.
