Bishop of Tura tests positive

Bishop of Tura, Fr. Andrew R Marak has been admitted to corona care centre after testing positive for COVID19.

Fr. Andrew R Marak tested positive two days after attending a candlelight vigil for the release of arrested Jesuit priest, Fr Stan Swamy.

Doctors from Holy Cross Hospital who examined the 72 year old Bishop found that he has Dyspnea because he is a COPD patient.

According to reports, since Fr. Andrew R Marak is a chronic asthmatic patient, he may be airlifted to Shillong on Wednesday for better treatment.

Doctors at Nazareth Hospital and NEIGRIMHS in Shillong have been asked to be prepared to admit the Bishop of Tura.

However, the doctors in Tura said condition of Fr. Andrew R Marak is stable, and his oxygen saturation level is also being maintained.

On Saturday, the Bishop had complained of weakness, and lack of appetite, but he had no symptoms of Covid19.

Despite the weakness, he had attended a candlelight vigil on Sunday for the arrested Jesuit priest, Fr Stan Swamy at Tura.

According to reports, the Bishop started experiencing symptoms of mild fever and breathlessness from Monday morning.

Several other religious leaders from different Christian denominations, under the banner of Tura Based Christian Churches (TBCC) had attended the candle light vigil.

After Fr. Andrew R Marak tested positive, three priests from Tura Bishop House have been advised self-quarantine by the health department officials.

The officials of the Meghalaya health department directed all the participants of the candlelight vigil to undertake COVID19 tests.
