Former Meghalaya minister Manirul Islam Sarkar no more

Former Meghalaya minister and two time MLA from the Phulbari constituency, Manirul Islam Sarkar passed away on Sunday after a heart attack in Guwahati, family sources said.

The 53-year-old Sarkar is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters.

“He was taking rest in Meghalaya House in Guwahati when he had a heart attack this afternoon. He was rushed to Hospital where they pronounced him dead,” said Sarkar’s younger brother, Rahibul Islam Sarkar.

“The angioplasty was a success and he was advised rest. He was taking rest in Meghalaya House in Guwahati over the past few weeks but had a second heart attack this afternoon. He was rushed to Nemcare Hospital once again where they pronounced him dead at about 4:30 this afternoon,” said Esmatur Mominin, younger brother and a member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
