Several noted personalities across the Northeast responded to Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma’s social media campaign to join the state to pray for the nation and the world this Easter Sunday at 6 pm.
Renowned personalities including world boxing champion Mary Kom, former Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia, Bollywood singer Angaraag Papon Mahanta and iconic blues guitar player, singer and songwriter Rudy Wallang appealed to the people to join Meghalaya to observe this Easter Sunday.

Besides, international standup comedian, actor and founder of Komic Sutra Nitin Mirani also made an appeal to join Meghalaya on April 12 at 6 pm during the prayer.

In a video clip shared on the Twitter handle of Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, Papon says: “Hi, I’m Papon and I wish to appeal to all my fellow citizens to join Meghalaya this Easter Sunday to pray for the nation and the world…which will be aired on TV at 12th of April at 6 pm and also will be streamed live.”
Requesting all to stay home during the lockdown period in view of COVID19 pandemic, Papon says: “I also request everyone to stay home, please be patient and please follow all the rules and regulations, everything told to you by the government to fight this epidemic.”
“And I am very sure that we will be able to win this fight,” the singer from Assam adds.

Chief minister Sangma has thanked all the noted personalities for their appeal to join Meghalaya during the hymn prayer ‘Meghalaya Prays’.
Initiated by chief minister Sangma, the hymns will be available on the official Facebook page of the chief minister and other social media platforms including Twitter.

The Meghalaya CM has appealed to all the citizens of the state and the northeastern to join the campaign this Easter Sunday from their homes by lighting a candle and singing the hymn.

The appeal comes as the nationwide lockdown continues in the wake of COVID19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced 21-day nationwide lockdown from March 24 midnight as a preventive measure to contain the spread of COVID19.
