Over 400 houses and 5,034 persons in Meghalaya have been affected while one person was killed following heavy rain and cyclonic storm.
A report of the state disaster management authority (SDMA) said one Bringson Rani drowned in Ktieh Madan stream on May 23 and the body was found the following day at Madanbitaw village under Sohïong C&RD block in East Khasi Hills district.

Around 420 houses in 35 villages were damaged and 5,034 persons have been affected due to heavy downpour, and seven houses were fully damaged.
Roads and RCC bridges were also damaged due to the flash floods.
Five villages under Tikrikilla C&RD block in West Garo Hills district were also affected by flash floods.

Cyclonic storm has also affected many houses under Resubelpara, Kharkutta and Bajengdoba C&RD blocks and municipal area in North Garo Hills district, and East Khasi Hills district too.
Many trees, and electric poles collapsed in many places because of either landslides or cyclonic storm in Greater Shillong, Mawpat, Mawphlang, Mawryngkneng, Mawkynrew, Mawlai, Khatarshnong, Sohiong, Shella, Mawsynram, Pynursla and Mylliem blocks under East Khasi Hills.
Landslides triggered by heavy rain were also reported in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
Three villages under Nongstoiñ block in West Khasi Hills and areas under Laskeiñ, Amlarem and Thadlaskeiñ blocks in West Jaiñtia Hills were also affected during the incident.
Revenue and Disaster Management minister Kyrmen Shylla said a total of 5 relief camps have been set up to rehabilitate affected families.
State disaster response force (SDRF), state police, and fire service personnel have been deployed, besides boats have been used to rescue the affected people.
He said the department has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh to each deputy commissioner for dealing with the situation.
