Keeping in view of the prevailing Covid19 situation, the Meghalaya government has announced total lockdown in East Khasi Hills district for five days beginning from 8 pm of Wednesday till 5 am of May 10.
The Meghalaya government has also decided to enforce weekend lockdown in other districts of the state.

This was announced by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, as many as 268 new positive cases were reported taking the total active cases to 2,136.
Four more Covid19 deaths were reported while a total of 147 persons have recovered.

“Though containment measures have been implemented which brought down movement of people and lesser gathering of people, but we have to go for strict measures to contain the situation,” chief minister Conrad Sangma said while announcing the decision to enforce the lockdown in East Khasi Hills district.
The chief minister said in Shillong itself, patients have occupied 60% of the beds in the hospitals.
East Khasi Hills district has maximum of new Covid19 positive cases including overall active cases.
He admitted that the containment measures implement did not show immediate results and to ensure drop in cases, stricter measures are required.
The Meghalaya chief minister said strengthening healthcare facilities in Shillong and Tura is on, besides other district headquarters and community health centres.
