Coronavirus: Meghalaya govt sets up isolation wards in 13 hospitals

In the wake of the fast spread of coronavirus in India, Meghalaya government has set up isolation wards in 13 hospitals as a precautionary measure to tackle any case of the deadly desease.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma said the isolation wards have been set up as a precautionary measure.

“We have contacted a number of private hospitals to take necessary steps and conduct screening of people, especially foreigners,” Sangma said.

He called upon the people not to panic, adding that 61 students from Meghalaya, who had earlier returned from China, have been kept under observation for 28 days.

Cases of coronavirus in the country climbed to 31 on Friday after another man from Delhi tested positive for the flu-like disease.

The disease has so far claimed 3,000 lives across the world. Till Thursday, there were 30 positive cases domestically, including 16 tourists from Italy and their Indian guide.
