Two of its MLAs – Cabinet minister AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai – are supporting the State Government.

Both the MLAs, however, have kept mum on the State BJP unit’s allegations levelled against the government.

“We want a white paper on corruption from the present Government,” State BJP president Ernest Mawrie said.

He said if the present MDA Government is clean as claimed, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma should not hesitate to accept the demand.

Mawrie further said that the coalition Government has not convened an MDA meeting so far to discuss issues related to corruption in the Government, an issue that the BJP has been continuously raising.

“Why is an MDA meeting not being convened where corruption issues raised by us can be discussed?” he asked.

Mawrie said that the BJP has zero tolerance towards corruption and has been stressing this stand in all its core committee meetings.

The BJP has been vocal on the alleged illegal coal mining and transportation in Meghalaya. The party has also alleged corruption in the implementation of Centrally-sponsored schemes.

“Even now illegal coal mining and transportation are going on in the State. Prices have been fixed for different categories of coal-laden trucks and such illegal activities are continuing,” Mawrie alleged.

He said senior party leaders at the Centre are aware of the charges against the MDA Government. The Central leadership has their own sources to gather information, Mawrie added.

“It is not necessary that information should come only from the State unit. The Central leaders have access to independent reports on governance in the State,” the state BJP chief said.

However, chief minister Sangma has rubbished the accusations made by the Meghalaya BJP unit and said that if anyone has any evidence of corruption in the Government, they should come forward to furnish it so that action can be taken.
