Bangladesh Minister for Information Muhammad Hasan Mahmud called on Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in Shillong on Tuesday.
The Bangladesh minister, who led a delegation of eight members, discussed a number of issues with the Meghalaya CM including connectivity, export and import, facilitating business between Bangladesh and Meghalaya.
Mahmud informed that during the meeting he invited the Meghalaya CM to attend the 100th birth anniversary celebration of the founder and first President of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to be held in Dhaka on March 17 next year.
He also informed that the Meghalaya CM has a plan to visit Bangladesh soon to strengthen the ties between Bangladesh and Meghalaya.
On connectivity including bus service, Mahmud said there has been a bus service between Dhaka and Shillong now.
“We talked about strengthening roadways between the two countries so that more vehicles could come from Bangladesh to Meghalaya and from Meghalaya to Bangladesh,” said Mahmud.
“We also discussed how to establish other routes between Meghalaya and Bangladesh that will help boost trade and commerce.”
“We also talked about export and import issues and how to facilitate export and import between the two countries,” the minister said.
On setting up of more border haats on the border between Bangladesh and Meghalaya, Mahmud said he discussed with the Meghalaya CM how to make border haats more effective.
