An absconding Bangladeshi police officer from Sylhet district is believed to have sneaked into Meghalaya to evade arrest in his country.

The absconding police official identified as Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan went missing following an accusation of a custodial death at Bandarbazaar police outpost in Sylhet district.

Bhuiyan, who was posted as sub-inspector at Bandarbazaar police outpost, along with some of his colleagues was suspended following the reported custodial death of one Rayhan Ahmed.

Although most of his colleagues involved in the cases are either suspended or arrested, Bhuiyan did not report for interrogation and possibly sneaked into India.

Sources said that Bangladeshi authorities have been informed by their Indian counterpart about the absconding policeman and sought their help in nabbing him.
