10th edition of East Himalayan Expo underway at Shillong

The tenth edition of the East Himalayan Expo was inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy at SRGT 2nd Ground, Polo in Shillong on Monday.

The expo is being organized from December 10 to 17 by the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) in collaboration with the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Meghalaya.

Addressing a gathering at the inaugural programme, Governor Roy  said that the expo would be a platform for a long-term on spot business tie-ups for the entrepreneurs.

During the programme, the Governor along with other dignitaries also released the ’10th East Himalayan Expo Guide’ book.

The expo aims to boost trade opportunities and enhance business links with the participation of over 200 leading companies.

This year, the participation profile covers a number of companies representing MSME, APEDA , CAPART etc.

Different kind of products ranging from organic products, packed foods, carpets, home furnishing, kitchenware, AYUSH products, textiles, woolen garments, leather goods, health and beauty products, food and confectionary items, handicrafts, garments, products of rural artisans and Self Help Groups (SHGs) will be on display during the expo period.

The expo will be operational from 10 am to 6 pm for eight days of the expo.

This year, the event is significant as Shillong has been selected as the 100th city under the Centre’s flagship ‘Smart Cities Mission’ and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

The Ministry of MSME on its Twitter handle on Tuesday stated: “This year, East Himalayan Expo assumes significance especially when the country is celebrating the 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi ‘Father of the Nation’ and it inspires all citizens to Rededicate themselves towards the talk of National building.”
