“I am happy to see them get to represent India in the city of the recently concluded Olympics. I hope to see them grow from strength to strength and see them grow into role models for others to follow,” he added.
Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri said the young players have shown their athletic prowess in the recently concluded Subroto Cup.
“It is a matter of pride for Meghalaya to see these players perform in an international arena and represent the country. We wish them all the very best and we are here to support them in whatever way they need,” he added.
The event comes at a high point for Meghalaya football where the state U-17 boys team has not only won gold at this year’s Khelo India Youth Games in Tamil Nadu but also recently co-hosted the prestigious Durand Cup where local team Shillong Lajong FC also made it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The second edition of the Indo-French Football Tournament is scheduled to be held at Paris between November 25 and 30 this year.
The touring team will comprise 16 players, including two goalkeepers, a coach, a manager and a representative from the state.
