Social activist, Agnes Kharshiing who was brutally attacked in an attempt to kill her was discharged from hospital on Monday.
Her release from hospital came more than a month after the attack that happened at Sohshrieh in East Jaiñtia Hills district on November 8.

Agnes and her aide, Amita Sangma was attacked by a group of alleged coal mafias for taking photographs of coal-laden trucks.
A statement issued by Agnes’s family said that she was discharged from North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) at around 3.45pm.
“She will be in her younger brother’s house for the moment till further assessments as may be recommended and adviced by a specialist team from NEIGRIHMS,” the statement said.

Family members of Agnes thanked God for his blessings and the miraculous recovery of Agnes and Amita.
“We are also grateful and truly appreciative of the untiring efforts of the Director, the Medical Superintendent, Heads of Department, Doctors and staff of NEIGRIHMS, the Doctors and staff of ïalong Civil Hospital Jowai, Medical Team of 108 Ambulatory services, Governor of Meghalaya, Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Chairman, MSPB, Govt of Meghalaya, Union Ministry of Health, Govt of India, Leader of Opposition, MLAs, MDCs, Secy NEC, Ajay Singh, CMD, SpiceJet, Meghalaya Police, MSCW, the Syiem, Dorbar Shnong, Seng Kur Kharshiing, State, National and International NGOs, Sports Fraternity, Church Elders, family members and friends, and especially the print and electronic Media for there prayers and solidarity during our crisis and work in helping her recover,” the family’s statement said.
Another statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of NEIGRIHMS, Dr. K. K. Pandita said that Agnes was brought to NEIGRIHMS with alleged history of assault on November 8.
The statement with detailed injuries of Agnes, said that scalp wounds were sutured under all aseptic precaution and she was shifted to ICU with ventilator support.
“After ex-tubation, the patient was shifted to Neurosurgery ward on November 16. Initially, she was disoriented about time, place and person with speech disturbances. The patient’s condition gradually improved and she underwent fixation of right olecranon fracture (CRIF with CCS) under General anaesthesia on November 28. Post operative period was uneventful. Since the patient’s condition has gradually improved significantly, it was decided that she would be discharged on Monday with further home medication and medical advice. She is asked to attend follow up in OPD of Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and orthopaedics,” Dr Pandita said in the statement.
Amita Sangma was discharged from NEIGRIHMS on November 30.
