Meghalaya runner Darishisha Iangiuh has brought laurels to the State by finishing second at Chennai Marathon 2019 on Sunday.
According to information, Darishisha came in just behind the winner from Ethiopia in the women’s open category which is her personal best.

Informing about the achievements of Meghalaya runners on her Twitter handle on Monday, Isawanda Laloo, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills stated: “Runners from South West Khasi Hills continue to shine- Darishisha clocks a personal best, taking home the 2nd place at Chennai marathon; Tlanding Wahlang set to represent India at the World Ultra Trail Championship in Portugal in May.”
As the runner-up of the event, Iangjuh took home a cheque of Rs 90,000.
According to a TSR report posted on its website on Sunday stated Iangjuh, who is supported by RunMeghalaya, finished the full marathon (41.195 km) in a personal best time of 3 hours, 10 minutes and 9 seconds, which was less than three minutes behind the race winner – Zenash Bekele Mabo of Ethiopia (3:07:46).

V Eswaran of Tamil Nadu emerged third in the Chennai Marathon 2019.
RunMeghalaya-supported runners will also participate in the Mumbai Marathon slated to be held on January 20 and the Kolkata Marathon on February 3, it stated.
As per the report, Tlanding Wahlang from Meghalaya is also all set to represent India at the World Ultra Trail Championship in Portugal in May. Wahlang and Iangjuh won 72 km Mawkyrwat Ultra men’s and women’s ultra-marathons respectively held in 2018.
