The policeman of 1st Meghalaya Police battalion, Probat Marak who had sustained serious injuries after being hit by the Mercedes of State Health Minister A L Hek’s son, Aibansharai Nongsiej finally breathed his last at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) here in Shillong on Saturday evening.
Marak was critically injured in the accident that took place on April 7 at a tri-junction at Fourth Furlong in Polo Ground area at around 12.45 am.

Notably, another policeman Probin D Sangma, a guard at the Shillong district jail Jail police, was killed and Probat Marak was seriously injured when the Meghalaya Health Minister A L Hek’s son, Aibansharai Nongsiej rammed his Mercedes into their motorcycle at night.
According to police sources, the post mortem of the deceased would be conducted on Sunday after which the body would be handed over to the family members.
According to police, the son of the Minister has been charged under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Meghalaya Police had earlier filed an FIR and registered a suo moto case after the relatives of the victims did not lodge any complaints.
Aibansharai Nongsiej was arrested earlier but was released as it was a bailable offence.
Critically injured Marak was initially admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital and later shifted to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on that day where he was battling for life for the last one week.
