Much to the delight of all Government employees, the Meghalaya Government has reportedly decided to disburse 30 per cent of the pending arrears to its employees by next month despite the cash crunch the State Government is facing.

A report published in the SHILLONG NEWS stated that the arrears, which include financial involvement of Rs 205 crore, would be disbursed to Government employees’ right before Christmas, a senior Finance Department official said, adding that the State has been able to give out employees’ salaries on time.

The report further stated that the decision of the Government is in tune with the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations. Following a recent court order, the other committed expenditure of the Government will be providing University Grants Commission (UGC) scale pay to college teachers as well as other allowances to deficit school and college teachers.
