The first Aqua Park of Meghalaya was inaugurated at Photjaud-War, South West Khasi Hills District by the state Fisheries Minister Comingone Ymbon in the presence of R. Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA, Mawkyrwat, KN Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Kum Isawanda Laloo, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Kum AL Mawlong, Director of Fisheries and other distinguished guests on Thursday.

Ymbon said that the park built at a cost of Rs 26 lakhs, will help in boosting tourism and development of the State’s economy.

He also said that Aqua Culture Mission-II will be launched soon in the state and it will help in increase of fish production .

Meghalaya has an annual demand of 27000 metric tonnes of fishes and only 12000 metric tonnes of fishes are produced this year and 15000 metric ones of fishes have to be imported from other states.

Ymbon said that the aqua park will help in boosting fish production and asked the fish farmers to avail the opportunities provided by the aqua park and meet the annual demand of fish production in the state.

Tongkhar urged the local people to maintain the premises of the aqua park and show hospitality to the visitors of the park to boost tourism and also prohibit them to construct new houses around the area of the park.
