Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has called a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Monday in Shillong even as clashes between stonepelting protesters and security forces continued for the fourth straight night in Shillong on Sunday, with teargas shells fired in the area where the standoff had begun.
Sources said Sangma’s daughter and newly elected Congress legislator from Ampati Miani D Shira will also attend the meeting.

The CLP meeting will discuss the situation of the city following the clash triggered by an altercation between the people of two communities in Them Iew Mawlong area.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in a bid to restore peace in the violence-hit Shillong has also convened an all-party meeting of the political parties at Shillong today to discuss the situation.
Condrad on Sunday said that “certain people” were funding the unrest in the city and added that evidence of alcohol and money being supplied to protesters had been found.

“There are individuals who were picked up and they have confessed that they had been given money to take part in this agitation… We are already on the job of finding out where the money is coming from,” Sangma told reporters.
He further said a large number of people participating in the protests had come from outside the East Khasi Hills district, in which Shillong falls.
Sangma also stressed that the clashes were not “communal” and were limited to a “particular locality”.
