The passing of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha is the greatest betrayal to the people of the Northeast in particular and the nation in general since independence.

This was what former Meghalaya Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Dr Mukul Sangma had to say on Tuesday.

Dr Sangma who is now the leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly while terming the Narendra Modi government at the Centre as anti-people said that the BJP led government is hell bound to suppress the people of the Northeast, reports Shillong Today.

He also said that a government is expected to response to the sentiment and aspirations of the people.

However, in spite of knowing the sentiments of the people of the Northeast, particularly the ‘microscopic indigenous ethnic groups of the region’, Dr Mukul said that the BJP has forcibly passed this bill in the Lok Sabha.

Dr Sangma was of the view that the way the BJP introduced the bill and passed it in the Lok Sabha reflects the saffron party’s complete insensitivity.
