The BSF Meghalaya Frontier recovered arms and other objectionable items from the border area of Shella Border Outpost, believed to be meant for smuggling into neighbouring Bangladesh.
According to the BSF, ahead of the general elections in Bangladesh, there are possibilities of arms smuggling from India to Bangladesh during this time.
“Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier, Lalatendu Mohanti has already sensitized all border deployed battalions to be more alert to foil such attempts of arms smuggling from India to Bangladesh,” a statement issued by the BSF said.
The statement further stated that BSF has obtained information about concentration of few arms smuggler who were stationed in the area to deliver arms to their counterparts in Bangladesh through some unknown cattle smugglers.
The BSF party tried to cordon off the area in order to apprehend these miscreants but they managed to escape taking the advantage of darkness and thick forest.
On searching of the area, the BSF personnel recovered five numbers of country made 12 bore single barrel gun, three cartridges, five cattle heads, one mobile phone with two SIM card and four torch lights.
